Confirmed Case of H1N1 At An Elementary School
#1
While talking to another teacher, it was brought up that there is a confirmed case of the H1N1 virus at Carman Buckner Elementary. District administrators want to keep this hush hush to not panic the staff! A teacher at that school has said that the administration at that school did not even inform the staff!

Do they usually make announcements about regular influenza cases? Are they even allowed to these days, with privacy regulations? There have probably been several H1N1 and regular seasonal influenza cases already; most cases are treated at home with simple supportive measures and never get 'confirmed' by lab tests anyway.

All other districts sends letters home for the parents to inform them about the virus! Look when it first broke out, schools were all over the news! Not looking for that but parents and staff should be made aware!

And since then I believe the CDC has told school districts, parents and everyone else not to panic about it. Practice proper hygiene, stay home when you're sick, don't clog up the doctor's office just to get a 'confirmation' of H1N1. Seriously - how is the knowledge of an individual case of H1N1 going to change how you go about your job? There are probably dozens more children in that building alone in various stages of seasonal influenza or H1N1 infection, all of them contagious. Most won't be taken to the doctor, so you won't know if they had a cold, seasonal flu, H1N1 flu, or any other flu.

I don't get the hysteria.
