WAUKEGAN â Three local men were arrested following spray-painting of gang graffiti on garages in the 800 block of May Street, police said.
Police were patrolling on May Street around 11:50 p.m. Oct. 30 when they saw a man later identified as Mark Lopez, 18, standing in the alley next to a garage holding a can of black spray paint. Lopez, of the 900 block of Grand Avenue, had just painted graffiti on the side of a garage, police Cmdr. Wayne Walles said Thursday.
Lopez then fled the scene in a car with two other men. They were stopped a short time later, Walles said.
The two other men were identified as David Garcia, 20, of the 500 block of North County Street, and Eduardo Solis, 17, of the 1400 block of Cornelia Avenue. Walles said all three were taken into custody after police discovered they had been drinking and had several cans of spray paint in the car.
Solis and Lopez were charged with criminal defacement of property, underage drinking and illegal transportation of alcohol.
Garcia was charged with underage drinking and illegal transportation of alcohol.
Lopez was charged with a DUI, underage drinking and illegal transportation of alcohol.
All three were released on signature bonds, police said.
