"over and above" describes newsletter well - seriously? - 03-14-2009

In the mail today Waukegan residents received the first edition of a multiple page, full color newsletter from the superintendent of Waukegan Public Schools singing the praises and accomplishments of District 60 and bashing the charter school proposal. I'm all for communication, but WHY is money being spent on something like this when District 60 is seeped in debt and the CFO has been warning of a bleak financial picture? (and exactly how much DID this cost?) There's also something about the timing of this proganda that strikes me as questionable . It certainly gives free publicity to the 4 incumbant board members that are seeking re-election in just a few weeks, don't you think? I'm sure Dr. Batiste would be thrilled to have these folks return.....3 out of 4 of them have a solid record of rubber stamping everything the administration puts forth.
This is "over and above" on many levels!
Seriously?

I received it also, and I'm sure the timing has alot to do with the upcoming school board elections. Could they have patted themselves on the back any harder?
Also, who paid for this? Since it's not actually a "political" mailer, I expect we did.

I thought that newsletter was awesome. I live in the community and got it in the mail. I think It is important for the community to know what's going on. Not only the people who have time to go to school board meetings, but people who pay property taxes and know where there money is going to. I really don't think it was such a bad idea.

I have to agree with "Seriously". This does sound like a political Bragging to help the incumbent "Rubber Stampers" on the school board. From what I hear, there are three challengers running to take the place of these people.

Michael Rodriguez, Steven Orusa and Tony Elam

I went to their website, then met them and am VERY impressed. They have MY vote!

Mike Rodriguez is a school board incumbent politically bragging die hard member of the "rubber stampers for at least a year and half now!

You can find it at http://www.wps60.org/board/members.php

Mike Rodriguez along with his fellow board members have not been good for the school system.

But don't just take my word for it. You can hear it from Superintendent Dr. Donaldo Batiste at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mkkXGtdnXLY

Superintendent Dr. Donaldo Batiste makes it clear that it was those nasty old school board members (including Mike Rodriguez) that were the problem.

Then fellow board member Mark Hawn, speaking for all the board members including fellow incumbent Mike Rodriguez, makes it clear that all the board members were behind Superintendent Dr. Donaldo Batiste.

Superintendent Dr. Donaldo Batiste was blaming the incumbent board for the continuation of the crimes against Katherine Sartin while Board Member Mark Hawn says they are all behind the Superintendent. It's confusing isn't it?
