Does Every Living Human Have A Right To Certain Things? - Danno - 10-22-2010

Does every living human being have a right to certain things? There are some who would say that no one has a right to anything. That everything must be earned. There are some who would say that in a free market nothing is free, everything must be paid for or earned by an individual. This thinking is faulty. It's as if they view modern humans as being equal to those born 5000 years ago. We are not. This could not be further from the truth. Each of us has a right to very much and what we have a right to increases as time progresses. It is entirely possible that in the near future, because of technological advances, each and every living person may have a right to free food, shelter, heatlh care, etc. How could this be you may be asking? The answer is simple. It is due to what humans do best. We pass technological improvements down from one generation to the next. This is pretty much a uniquely human trait. Scientists now understand that is why Neanderthal man did not survive and Homo Sapiens did. For instance, that is why we have mathematics. Every one of us has a right to the knowledge of mathematics because it was given to us by our ancestors. No one owns it. No one has to pay for it. That's how medicine is supposed to be. All accumulated human knowledge of the science of medicine should be free to everyone. We do have a right to that which our ancestors gave us and it increases as time progresses for we are standing on the shoulders of giants.
To not recognize this is akin to being a Neanderthal.
