14 yo shot dead - gmg77 - 09-08-2010 Tragic  Two other teens wounded in fatal shooting September 8, 2010 http://www.suburbanchicagonews.com/news ... 08.article Police have confirmed that two other teenagers were wounded over the weekend when Adriana Avila of Highwood was shot and killed in the 1400 block of Victory Street. That violence follows a shooting Aug. 23 in Waukegan that killed Amy Williams, a young mother of three. Ciera McNeal, founder of Stand Up for Something, says a town hall meeting is scheduled for the end of month to discuss violence and safety. "People are asking if it still going on. They pretty much just want answers. Are police doing their job? Are witnesses coming forward, and is the community doing their job?" she said. Avila, 14, of Highwood, who was a freshman at Highland Park High School, died Sunday of a single shot in the chest. Cmdr. George McCleary of North Chicago Police Department said two other teenagers were also hit by gunfire during that incident and were treated and released from a hospital. McCleary said it was just a Labor Day weekend type of gathering. Witnesses said shots rang out and three people were hit. Police can't confirm whether the shooting was gang related or a case of mistaken identity. "We are still talking to the witnesses and canvassing the area," McCleary said. He could not say whether the shooter was on foot or inside a vehicle. The Lake County Major Crime Task Force is investigating the shooting. McNeal said the town hall meeting will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Sept. 30 at 1200 Glen Flora Ave., the Community Action Partnership building. Police chiefs from Waukegan, Zion and North Chicago and a number of politicians have been invited to attend. Now is the time to voice concerns, she said. Avila had left her house in Highwood without her mother's knowledge and went to North Chicago around 9 p.m. Sunday. She was later found dead in the 1400 block of Victory Street. Re: 14 yo shot dead - Blackdiamond - 09-08-2010 There have been other meetings, marchess, and you name it. How can a Policeman prevent a crime BEFORE it happens? How can a Mayor prevent crimes BEFORE they happen? Is there a death sentence in Illinois? Stop the damned plea barginings. Some one ,or some folks need to get the gangs to meet. I'll speak--we need to talk to the kids and not to one another. Its soooo sad. |
