DC trip guide - gmg77 - 08-27-2010

Tea party guide to DC; Beck's "I have a Scheme" speech Aug 28.
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.theatlanticwire.com/features/view/feature/Tea-Partiers-Warning-Filled-Guide-to-DC-1892">http://www.theatlanticwire.com/features ... to-DC-1892</a><!-- m -->

=Warning: Caribou Coffee wifi "restricts your access to 'adult' sites."

="Dupont Circle, gay area"

=At the West End Bistro, "Nancy Pelosi, Alan Greenspan, Andrea Mitchell, Clint Eastwood, and other notables, good and evil, local and visiting, may be spotted."

=On scary African people: "DC's population includes refugees from every country, as the families of embassy staffs of third world countries tend to stay in DC whenever a revolution in their homeland means that anyone in their family would be in danger if they went back. Most taxi drivers and many waiters/waitresses (especially in local coffee shops like the Bread and Chocolate chain) are immigrants, frequently from east Africa or Arab countries. As a rule, African immigrants do not like for you to assume they are African Americans and especially do not like for you to guess they are from a neighboring country (e.g. Eritrea, Ethiopia, Somalia) with whom they may have political or military tensions."

=On the metro: "Do not use the Green line or the Yellow line." [Editor's note: About half of the Atlantic Wire staff lives safely on the Green and Yellow line. Of course, we are all armed to the teeth. And Eritrean.]

=The eight blocks that are safe: "If on foot or in a cab or bus"--Segway riders, it seems, can safely skip this note--stay "in DC only in northwest DC west ... of 14th or 16th streets, or if on Capitol Hill only in SE Capitol Hill (zip 20003) between 1st and 8th Streets, not farther out than 8th."

=Where you can go: Pelosi's house, to protest. The guide concludes by listing the home addresses of Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Anita Dunn, and Tom Daschle. "Feel free to protest!"

=DC blogger Laura Olin helpfully provides this map of the city, with the proscribed "safe" area in blue and the "unsafe" in red. [/list]

Re: DC trip guide - Blackdiamond - 08-28-2010

GMG77. I tried to reply to the comment about this white couple who was on a train and they were terrified that a black person smiled as he kissed his wife on top of her head, but I had trouble logging in. I've always thought that a "smile" was a friendly gesture. His comments brought tears to my eyes. God help us all. Sad

Re: DC trip guide - gmg77 - 08-30-2010

Are you refering to this...
Quote:My wife and I are a young couple and both of us are as white as a sheet. We took the green line this past Friday night. During the ride, my wife put her head on my shoulder, and I kissed the top of her head. Just then, I looked up and one of those black people (shudder) smiled at us. Believe me, we were terrified.
:\

Im not sure but I think they are using sarcasm. As to say the only interaction they experienced on the green line was positive between passengers.

gmg77, The Atlantic Trip Wire? I think you are a frightened little man who hides behind internet anonymity. Did you take the time to watch the 8/28 event in Washington D.C.? Your posts are all based on what you read from biased sources. I was there, as was Alveda King and many other clergy members of all faiths. Your leftist point of view may be popular with the three of you, but your days are numbered. Our President and his Progressive allies have awoken a sleeping giant. Once again, why don't you tell us all your area of expertise(career) that has sustained your life, other than trashing those of us who have worked and saved their entire life.

Im currently a community organizer, collecting welfare and living off food stamps :lol:/s I posted this in good humor, it was in reference to some folks bloggin' about DC trip preparation and showing their obvious xenophobia.

Seriously I watched some of the Beck speeches and found them very absent of any fact or substance. What I saw was alot of religious types delivering sermons. I think the purpose was to retrofit the Christian right unto the tea party movement instantly increasing the power and membership. I do have a few questions you may be able to help me understand.

Beck mentions "liberation theology" as not a recognized Christian faith, who is he to judge religions? Is Mormonism an acceptable faith? Why does he insist Obama has a perverse unamerican religion? Do you agree with Alveda's recognition of white privilege and racism in America? Do you have a problem with using dead soldiers to elicit "donations" to fund the event?

that is all...

Re: DC trip guide - ClassicalLib17 - 08-30-2010

gmg77,What did you think about the 240 religious representatives on stage when Mr. Beck said that " we all don't agree with one another on everything but we agree that we need to work together to solve our problems."OK, I paraphrase. I disagreed with Alveda King's statement of white privilege because that would also refer to me and I never held anyone back. I have always believed in sharing my knowledge with my fellow man. I grew up in a very humble environment and I worked my ass off for 44 of my 56 years on this planet. My body is permanently damaged from the work I performed and I never asked for anything more than what was coming to me. Do you understand what your political philosophy has wrought upon our society? You are the reason we have rampant gang activity, BOOMING music , loud cars, litter, low test scores, high school drop-outs, teenage pregnancy, children without fathers, bankrupt city government, bankrupt state and federal government, and massive oil spills in the gulf. I have not been a particularly religious person in my life, to date, but your opinions are really beginning to worry me. You need some spiritual help, really. Somehow, I believe that you want to find the truth. I will pray for your epiphany. Thank you for your reply

Glen Beck is nothing more than a tele-evangelist in disguise. His goal... America, a Fascist Theocracy.

you often speak of "the truth" which leads me to believe that you have regard for it.
Here is some.
Take a couple of hours and watch it:

I'd love to hear your critic and analysis of it (only IF you actually watch all of it).
