verenablock Wrote:Let's get people voting... In my most recent blog posting, I mentioned that less than 25% of the registered voters in the Waukegan precincts made it to the polls in the April 2005 election. It would be an amazing accomplishment if we could double that number.

You state: "Not only did less than 25% of the registered voters fail to show up, but 225 of the ones that did managed to screw up their ballots. "

I don't think the 225 people with undervotes really "screwed up their ballots." I suspect, in most cases, that the undervote was actually a vote for "None of the above."

If you look at the counts for Mayor of Waukegan from the primary election in February 2005, there were only 16 undervotes:

City of Waukegan Mayor
VOTE FOR 1
(WITH 53 OF 53 PRECINCTS COUNTED)
John L. Balen . . . . . . . . . 191 3.01
Richard H. Hyde . . . . . . . . 2,692 42.38
Samuel D. Cunningham, Jr. . . . . . 1,850 29.12
Robert Sabonjian . . . . . . . . 1,504 23.68
Alex Garcilazo. . . . . . . . . 106 1.67
WRITE-IN. . . . . . . . . . . 9 .14
Total . . . . . . . . . 6,352
Over Votes . . . . . . . . . 2
Under Votes . . . . . . . . . 16

People know how to mark their ballots.

P.S. you might want to edit your statement "less than 25% of the registered voters fail to show up." I think you mean just the opposite. Wink

I agree about the undervotes Kellyann. I tend to look at the undervotes and rather than seeing "screw ups' I see free thinkers. I've done it before. I intend to do it again soon.

Did a dose of hard reality hit our most arrogant savior, Steve Kolber? The dumb masses didn't bow down at his feet so he lost interest? Or maybe he's just busy conning some other community out of millions for a bungled half ass theatre job.

Very fair. I respect the fact that admin did not remove or alter the post.

I like the penalty box idea! Not permanantly banned, just a "time-out" for high-sticking!

Its called preventative measure CONCERN. Unfortunately, in the situation you expressed, what's done is done. I nor do I believe is anyone else on here capable of DOING SOMETHING... as we are not judge and jury.

In regards to issues you have recently been dealing with... Your angry... we get it
While understandable and while we even may be sympathetic to your plight... what in G-d's green earth do you want me to do about it? Protest? Picket? send emergency flares into the dark night? What are your expectations? and is it feasible for them to be fulfilled?
