Re: Man shot and killed in south side Waukegan alley - wakluvit - 03-10-2010 The right to keep and bear arms simple, so some idiot doesn't infringe on my right to live. Ask Michael Jordan's father if he wishes he had a gun on him. You can't. Re: Man shot and killed in south side Waukegan alley - Blackdiamond - 03-10-2010 Oh Danno, Thank You, Thank You, babe. Ista, I don't know how you can get it delivered to your House. Its not real heavy if someone throws it at your window. (OK Guys, am I on a "la la" land track? , and what Ista said about the window means something else? So Im gonna throw this out there, most likely,as it would seem only common sense the founding fathers intended for us to stay armed for several reasons.Almost any statement is open to interpretation.... and so is the Bill of Rights. Your observation about looking back with 21st century eyes is a good one, one that I certainly wouldn't ignore, but the framers were not ignorant writers either. They knew about change. That is why they allowed for amendments to be made. Also there is no doubt whatsoever that the right to bear arms was granted, at least in part, to empower the people the means to protect themselves against a goverment that turned tyrannical. With that said, there should be no limitation of the type of "arms" the people have a right to bear. Automatic weapons, grenade launchers even atomic weapons should be available to the people via the local arms shoppe. Otherwise the whole concept of taking back a tyrannical government (who has these same weapons at it's disposal) would be undermined. Is there anyone who agrees with that view? And a quote from Thomas Jefferson - "The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government." |
