Thank you for doing the right thing and keeping a child with a fever at home! I know it is inconvenient do keep a school age child at home but it makes me crazy that so many people send their kids to school sick.

Thank You Fedup---I have been a little sick, coughing up "green" stuff. The doctor gave me some antibiotics and now I'm "coughing' from both ends. (As long as it all comes out).
I love food and if I ever lose my appetite, I'm calling 911-- Hey KellyAnne--one of my sons put a themometer in warm water and fooled me. He told me about this years later and I popped him in the head.

Yea, they've tried the hot thermometer trick once. They thought they were going to both stay home and play all day. The older one presented me with a digital thermometer flashing a warning message about the temperature being out of range. :o
I put on my best panic-mom face and told the boys we were going to have to rush right over to the hospital so they could be put in an ice bath, since no one can live for very long with such a high fever. Pretty soon the little one spilled the beans on their nefarious plot, and off to school they went. :lol: Since then I keep the thermometers locked up in the med box.

Swine flu cases mount
A 23-month-old Texas child has died from the swine flu, the first confirmed U.S. fatality from the disease, according to Dr. Richard Besser, the acting director of the Centers for Disease Control. A Mexican organization in Chicago has canceled a Cinco de Mayo celebration this weekend over concerns about the swine flu.
Evelia Rodriguez is a spokeswoman for the Mexican Civic Society of Illinois. She says hundreds of performers and vendors from Mexico were set to travel to Chicago's Navy Pier for the event on Saturday and Sunday.
But she says some had trouble getting flights out of Mexico. And she says the cancellation is for healthy safety reasons.

But organizer Jorge says they will not cancel. Seems like a very bad call with the surge of numbers in our area.

May Day organizers defy city pressures to cancel May Day march amidst fears of influenza outbreak.
Immigrants and workers, joined together with their supporters, call to go forward with march on May Day for equality, labor rights, legalization and just immigration laws.
CHICAGO â Using the fear surrounding the swine flu outbreak, anti-immigrant groups, including those in city government, call for a cancellation of the workers' and immigrants' rights demonstration. Immigrants and workers resolve to hold fast and rally with the slogan âwithout legalization there can be no equal labor rightsâ despite targeted attacks from the government.
Father Jose Landaverde said âI was directly contacted by city officials. They wanted to know if we were canceling the march, they wanted us to agree to wear masks if the march was going to happen.â
Margarita Klein, Staff Director of Workers United, states: âIf people are not allowed to march on May Day because of health concerns, then similar precautions must be taken in other crowded events taking place in Chicago. We will cancel the march when every sporting event, movie showing, church service and class is cancelled.â
While aware of the situation in Mexico City, march organizers wish to express their demands without being singled out because of their country of origin. May Day is a traditional day to raise grievances dating back over 100 years. Workers and immigrants are under attack and city officials can not discourage May Day organizers from exercising their rights to raise issues that affect millions of people.

I used to rub my hands together real fast with the thermometer between them to create friction heat. That could get up to about 101 if I was lucky.

Yea, that's the method I used back in the day. Definitely shoot for something in the 101F range. Not sick enough to make mom rush you to the doctor, but definitely too sick for mom to give you some tylenol and send you off to school 8-)

Kindergarten is not mandatory here in Illinois.
