“Angel! Come out with your hands up. We do not want to hurt you.”

Waukegan police locked down a neighborhood immediately east of Waukegan Regional Airport on Friday night in a standoff with an armed man in a house at 2201 Herbert Drive.

Police Chief Artis Yancey was at the scene and said the incident began as a domestic disturbance.

The incident was over at 10:20 p.m., but details were not immediately available. Police told neighbors that the man had escaped.

Police did not immediately identify the gunman they addressed from the street as “Angel” about 9:40 p.m. Friday.

One of the neighbors, in a house west of 2201 Herbert, was initially told by police to return to her house and later was directed to go to the lowest level at the westernmost interior wall of the house.
