2nd. Ward Alderman John Balen has died.
Thanks for posting this Danno. I refuse to listen to Libby and I canceled the local tabloid quite a while ago so I had no idea.
My thoughts and prayers are with his family. Rest peacefully, Mr. Balen.

On that we can agree. Balen was a tireless public servant who loved this town and he will be missed.

I'm sure Libby doesn't even know about this, as she doesn't know her head from a hole in the ground. As far as the 'tabloid' they probably don't know about it either. Thanks Danno for letting us know about this. Now what happens? Who takes over the 2nd ward?

He told it like "it is" and "was". He was not afraid of the GOB'S. Rest, rest, rest, Mr. Balen.
According to the Illinois Municipal Code the mayor is to select a qualified person to fill the vacancy within 60 days. The council then has 30 days to approve or disapprove. If they disapprove then the mayor has to select another qualified person. A new alderman will then be elected in the April 2009 election for the remainder of Balen's term. Any guesses out there who the mayor will select?
