The school board is considering cutting French as a foreign language in the middle schools. For those who see the value in having students learn a foreign language, this is part of the curriculum that should be expanded to every middle school, not eliminated from the few that offer it. They are considering having Spanish as the only "foreign" language offered at middle schools. Most of our district's student body already speaks Spanish! To offer only Spanish as a foreign language does not help those students in any way - it isn't foreign to them! It is not just the middle school students who will suffer as a result of this cut; eliminating French at the middle school level will ultimately dry up the number of students who are capable of handling the A.P. French class once they are in high school. There are too few A.P. classes as it is. Our district is losing the ability to compete with neighboring districts.

If this is a concern to you, you had better let the school board know that cutting French is a mistake. If you can attend the student achievement meeting on Dec. 16 at 6:00 at Lincoln Center, that would be great. You will have the opportunity to air your concerns to the board at that time.
They had to cut something in order to make way for the AP Gangbanging, Thugging, and Welfare Queen classes

What a damn shame. The first things that should be on the chopping block should not be what we are offering our students.
I hope they are more thoughtful in their obvious financial dilemma.
