Alderman TenPas

34. Developers are buying up houses. We are getting a lot of Section 8 vouchers.
Thanked Fire Department for their help during this budget crisis. Thanked Alderman Needham for working hard on the budget. Look out for our safety and your home during the loss of jobs.

I have been following the real estate transfers for quite awhile. I certainly have seen a LOT of developers buying up homes in Waukegan. The comment above was from the July 20th council minutes.

Does anyone know more about Section 8 vouchers:

-who issues them, state/county/city?
-can a city protest if they seem to be getting a disproportionate amount of Section 8 vouchers
-is every city required to have some (like Lake Forest, Kenilworth... :roll: )

And probably most importantly can Waukegan say that we have had enough. I remember reading on the old Waukegan board about the abuses of this program. Can only citizens get a voucher?

I'll spend some time googling -but any input would be great. I heard the mayor say that he wanted more professional and middle class people to move into Waukegan. Well....

some strong feelings;

I found this if it helps,

that place pointed me to the Waukegan housing authority...

"Do I have to rent an apartment in the same city or county where I received my Section 8 voucher?

No. Section 8 vouchers are "portable". So, once you receive a voucher, you can take it anywhere in the United States that has a public housing authority which can administer the voucher. You can literally receive a voucher in Mississippi and move to Hawaii with it."

Let's hold a fundraiser and purchase plane tickets to Hawaii for all the Section-8 deadbeats...
