The quality of the News-Sun really is going down. We have seen it for years. Yesterdays was 22 pages long. No more tv listings, no Ellie.
It seems they don't think it is very important to put much news in it either. It seems all we see are stories from Judy Masterson portraying the woes of every poor person in the area. Lots of fluff in the paper too. I think maybe 3% of the paper is devoted to news. I have seen in the talk of the county section they are printing comments by seniors who are asking why the comics are so small and where are the tv listings. Many people still don't have the internet and will probably not get it. Especially the elderly. They shouldn't take away the tv listings from those folks.
The Daily Herald is a good paper but they don't think the Waukegan area is important enough to cover. I hope one day they do. It would sure be nice to have a good daily newspaper again.
The change in demographics of the area is reflected in the change of the newspaper. We have a growing group that does not read, let alone subscribe to, the News-Sun. They have other choices they prefer to read. The paper must change to reflect the decrease in revenues, therefore features are reduced or eliminated, reporting staff is cut back, and production is reduced.
I FULLY agree,I moved here 15 yrs ago and though the News-Sun was no Miami Herald,Its really gone to hell lately.
Expenses do need to be reduced and/or revenues need to be increased; but making the quality of the paper THIS bad is not making much sense. You have to maintain a certain level of quality to retain some of your readership. It just seems like this 'paper' is slapdashed together, while the existing management is either counting the days until retirement, or are using company computer time sending their resumes out, instead of trying to make the paper worth reading.
Now they raised the price...pay more for less news..no thanks.
Lately, the paper has been an average of 14 pages long. The Zion-Benton News is just as big. Depressing, really.
Let me be the first to write the final edition.
